Three Green Cleaning Myths Explained

January 30, 2015

Cleaning Myths ExplainedThe green cleaning industry is rife with partial truths and flat-out myths about the products and processes we use to keep businesses squeaky-clean. Even though green cleaning has been around for years, there are still several myths that persist.

We’ve chosen three of the most common to talk more about here:

Myth #1. Green cleaners simply can’t do the job of a harsher chemical.

Green Cleaning Reality: Although there is a distinct difference between green cleaners, such as sanitizers and disinfectants, the key to effectiveness is in using the right product for the right job.

There’s plenty of evidence to show that green products are just as effective at ridding your office of unpleasant smells and germs as traditional chemicals. Green cleaners tend to be multi-purpose and are many are sanitizers, which kill up to 99.99% of microorganisms on a treated surface, as compared to 100% of disinfectants. Even the most basic products, like hot soapy water, can often do a great job cleaning and disinfecting office spaces. Even though you won’t have the artificial smell of lemon or pine left behind from green cleaning, the smell of nothing speaks volumes to the power of green cleaners that don’t need to mask odors with strong fragrances.

Myth #2. Green cleaning is just “marketing speak” for switching over to green cleaning products.

Green Cleaning Reality: There’s a lot more to green cleaning than just changing to environmentally friendly products.

With a green clean, not only do we kill the bacteria as mentioned above, we are able to trap and remove the bacteria with the use of microfiber and HEPA-filtered vacuums, resulting in a superior clean as compared to older methods and technology. We also implement simple changes, simply by using entry mats that help prevent the entry of dirt into your building in the first place

Myth #3. There’s nothing special about microfiber.

Green Cleaning Reality: Microfiber is one of the most amazing cleaning tools available today!

This material was made possible due to incredible leaps in technology that allowed manufacturers to create cleaning cloths with individual strands that are roughly 1/100th the size of a human hair. These tiny fibers not only get into small cracks better than old-fashioned materials, because of their fiber density, they grab and hold onto dirt much better. In fact, they can even capture many types of bacteria, making them a truly antiseptic option.

So, remember…With the prevalence of health issues that include asthma and upper respiratory ailments and, it’s important that we address and dispel these common myths – and that tenants and managers alike understand just how important green cleaning is to the health of the building and to the community as a whole.
