The Power of Electrostatic Sprayers Against COVID-19

June 26, 2020

Electrostatic Sprayers COVID-19From airplane cabins to classrooms, electrostatic spray disinfection has emerged as a technological hero following the outbreak of COVID-19. This tool allows the electrostatic spray operator to distribute disinfectant more thoroughly and efficiently than ever before. This has made the equipment invaluable in the fight against the current coronavirus outbreak. So how do electrostatic sprayers work, and why have they proven so effective during this pandemic? We break down how the technology works, and when and where it should be employed to combat the spread of COVID-19.

How it works:

This is not your average atomizing spray or fogger. Electrostatic technology works by adding a positive electric charge to the liquid as it passes through the spray nozzle. This makes the spray droplets repel from each other and bind to negatively charged surfaces in the environment. The result creates a superfine spray that evenly wraps around all surfaces, ensuring full coverage. The spray also works effectively when applied from every angle, providing 360-degree coverage.

Why it’s effective:

When combined with an EPA-approved SARS-Cov-2 disinfectant, the electrostatic sprayer technology kills the SARS-Cov-2 virus much more effectively, as compared to conventional hand wiping methods that require more time and labor. Electrostatic sprays also have the added advantage of being able to access hard-to-reach areas.

When to use:

Many companies are choosing to add electrostatic sprayer technology to complement the normal cleaning/disinfecting on a periodic basis. Additionally, should an office occupant test positive for COVID-19, this electrostatic spray process is part of SparkleTeam’s protocol to completely disinfect the office area so it is safe for occupants to return. SparkleTeam’s protocol is compliant with the CDC cleaning and disinfecting guidelines for SARS-CoV-2.

Keep in mind, however, that this technology does not replace conventional cleaning. In addition to disinfectants, electrostatic sprayers work well in distributing cleaning solutions. But surfaces still need to be wiped down manually to remove visible dirt and grime. For offices still running at low occupancy, you can also focus on “hot-spot” cleaning, which targets high-touch areas.

In response to increased demand for the technology, SparkleTeam has added more electrostatic sprays to its equipment fleet. Please contact us if you would like to discuss incorporating electrostatic disinfection sprays into your current cleaning program.
